You must have heard about the fierce dacoits of Chambal! These fierce dacoits, who ruled over the beehad of Chambal for decades by taking up arms against injustice, are now engaged in environmental conservation! And this task has been taken up by the Shri Kalpataru Organisation, an organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of nature and culture!
The Organisation, initiating a unique initiative, invited former rebels who had ruled in the beehad of Chambal for a long time by taking up arms against injustice, to Jaipur and conducted a grand gathering of former dacoits dedicated to the environment based on dacoit life, “First, they inhabited the beehad – Now, they will save the beehad”! This was the first unique event in the history of the world where a successful attempt was made to turn former ‘dacoits into Valmikis’!
Through the ceremony, efforts were made to dialogue with all responsible people, organisation, and governments of various states bordering Chambal, including the center, to connect all dedicated dacoits with the Prime Minister’s ‘Clean India Mission’ and ‘Ideal Village Scheme’, and to re-green the desolate beehad that is losing its existence, and establish a record in the field of environment! After nearly two years of effort, inspired by actor Irrfan Khan’s film Paan Singh Tomar, many former dacoits and their families were connected with many social concerns such as environmental conservation.
Change– A decrease is being seen in the hunting of wildlife, cutting of green trees, and illegal mining. Also, meaningful changes have come in protecting the biodiversity of a very large area around the Chambal River. Under this program, the central government and the concerned state governments were also written letters to cooperate on the following points.
